Syncline

Email a customer when their Stripe plan changes

Upgrades, downgrades and cancellations trigger a written note from your own address naming the old plan, the new plan and the next charge date.

Trigger: Subscription created or changed
Action: Send an email
About 9 minutes to set up

How this flow works

Syncline watches Stripe for Subscription created or changed. When that happens it runs Send an email in Gmail with the fields you mapped.

  1. Connect Stripe and choose the subscription event.
  2. Connect the Gmail address these notes should come from.
  3. Write one template per change type, or one template with the plan names dropped in.
  4. Change a test subscription, read the mail, then connect the live account.

Field mapping

From StripeTo GmailNote
Customer emailToThe address on the Stripe customer is the recipient, so the note reaches whoever pays rather than whoever signed up.
StatusSubjectThe subject names what changed, so an upgrade and a cancellation never read the same way.
AmountBodyThe new charge is written as a decimal with its currency, never in the minor units Stripe reports.
CreatedBodyThe change date is shown in the customer timezone where you store one, and in UTC where you do not.

Why teams run it

  • Customers hear about a price change before the charge
  • The note comes from a real mailbox, so replies reach you
  • Cancellations get a human answer instead of silence

Who uses it

A subscription owner who wants fewer chargebacks and more conversations about why somebody left.

About the two apps

Stripe

Stripe knows the moment money arrives, fails or goes back out. Syncline turns each of those events into something your team can see and act on within a couple of minutes.

All Stripe flows

Gmail

Plenty of work still arrives as an email and stays there. Syncline turns matching messages into records in your other apps, and sends mail back out when something changes.

Questions

Is this the same as a Stripe receipt?
No. Stripe sends the receipt. This is your own message about what changed, from your address, which is where a reply is actually useful.
Can cancellations get a different template?
Yes. Build one flow per change type and filter on the status, so a downgrade gets a short note and a cancellation gets a real question.
