Create a Stripe customer from a Slack message
Sales closes in the channel, types the customer address after your keyword, and the Stripe record exists before anyone opens the dashboard.
How this flow works
Syncline watches Slack for Keyword mentioned. When that happens it runs Create a customer in Stripe with the fields you mapped.
- Pick the keyword that starts the flow and the channels it is allowed in.
- Connect Stripe in test mode and map the address in the message onto the customer email.
- Set the currency from the channel and decide which metadata fields you want stored.
- Run one test message, check the customer in Stripe, then connect the live account.
Field mapping
| From Slack | To Stripe | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Message text | Customer email | The address typed after the keyword becomes the email on the new Stripe customer. |
| Message text | Amount | A figure written after the address is stored as the agreed value, so the first invoice arrives pre-filled. |
| Channel | Currency | A regional channel sets the billing currency, which stops a sale closed in Europe being invoiced in dollars. |
| Author | Invoice ID | The Slack member who asked is written into metadata beside the invoice reference, for later reconciliation. |
Why teams run it
- The record exists while the deal is still fresh
- Sales never gets a Stripe login they should not have
- Every creation is attributable to the person who typed it
Who uses it
A sales lead whose reps close on calls and should not be inside the payments dashboard.
About the two apps
Slack
Slack is where a team notices things, which makes it the best place to put an alert and the worst place to store one. Syncline sends messages into channels when something happens elsewhere, and turns the replies worth keeping into records.
Stripe
Stripe knows the moment money arrives, fails or goes back out. Syncline turns each of those events into something your team can see and act on within a couple of minutes.
