Syncline

Mirror a Slack alert channel into a mailbox

People who do not sit in Slack all day still get the message, because every post in the channel you pick arrives as an email with the author and a permalink.

Trigger: New message in a channel
Action: Send an email
About 5 minutes to set up

How this flow works

Syncline watches Slack for New message in a channel. When that happens it runs Send an email in Gmail with the fields you mapped.

  1. Invite Syncline to the channel and choose it as the source.
  2. Connect the Gmail account the copies should be sent from.
  3. Set the destination address, or map several channels onto several mailboxes.
  4. Post a test message, check the mail, then add a keyword filter if the channel is busy.

Field mapping

From SlackTo GmailNote
Message textBodySlack markup is converted to plain text and to HTML, and you choose which version is sent.
AuthorSubjectThe subject opens with who posted, which makes an inbox of alerts triageable at a glance.
ChannelToEach channel can route to a different mailbox, so operations mail and finance mail never mix.
Attachment URLBodyFiles stay in Slack and the email carries the link, because only workspace members can open it anyway.

Why teams run it

  • An on-call rota works from email without a Slack seat
  • Alerts get an archive that survives the message limit
  • One filter keeps a noisy channel out of the inbox

Who uses it

An operations manager whose warehouse staff read email on a shared terminal and never open chat.

About the two apps

Slack

Slack is where a team notices things, which makes it the best place to put an alert and the worst place to store one. Syncline sends messages into channels when something happens elsewhere, and turns the replies worth keeping into records.

All Slack flows

Gmail

Plenty of work still arrives as an email and stays there. Syncline turns matching messages into records in your other apps, and sends mail back out when something changes.

Questions

Will this flood my inbox?
It will if the channel is busy, so add a keyword or a sender filter on the flow. Most teams cut the volume by ninety percent with one word.
Can replies go back into the channel?
Not from this flow. Build a second one on the Gmail side using a reply trigger and a Slack post action, and the loop closes.
