Post matching Gmail messages into a Slack channel
Give Syncline the Gmail search you already type and every matching message lands in a channel, so a shared mailbox stops depending on one person watching it.
How this flow works
Syncline watches Gmail for New email matching a search. When that happens it runs Post a message to a channel in Slack with the fields you mapped.
- Connect the mailbox and paste the Gmail search string you use today.
- Choose the Slack channel and invite Syncline to it.
- Lay out the message: sender, subject, and the first lines of the body.
- Send a test mail that matches, read the post, then adjust the search if it is noisy.
Field mapping
| From Gmail | To Slack | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Subject | Message text | The subject opens the post in bold, so the channel reads the point before the detail. |
| From | Channel | Sender domains route to different channels, which is how VIP customers get their own place. |
| Body | Message text | The first lines are quoted under the subject and the rest is left in Gmail where it belongs. |
| Attachment | Attachment URL | Files travel as links to the message, so nothing lands in Slack that Google is already storing. |
Why teams run it
- A shared mailbox gets seen by the whole team
- The Gmail search you trust becomes the filter
- Nobody forwards mail manually to keep people informed
Who uses it
A support manager whose team watches a channel all day and opens the shared inbox twice.
About the two apps
Gmail
Plenty of work still arrives as an email and stays there. Syncline turns matching messages into records in your other apps, and sends mail back out when something changes.
Slack
Slack is where a team notices things, which makes it the best place to put an alert and the worst place to store one. Syncline sends messages into channels when something happens elsewhere, and turns the replies worth keeping into records.
