Alert Slack when an Airtable number crosses a limit
Set the limit once and the channel hears the moment a row goes over it, with the record name, the value and a link to open the row.
How this flow works
Syncline watches Airtable for Field crosses a threshold. When that happens it runs Post a message to a channel in Slack with the fields you mapped.
- Connect the base and pick the numeric field plus the limit that matters.
- Choose the Slack channel and invite Syncline to it.
- Write the alert so it names the row, the value and the limit it passed.
- Push one test row over the line, read the message, then set the real limit.
Field mapping
| From Airtable | To Slack | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Amount | Message text | The number that crossed is written next to the limit, so nobody has to open the base to judge severity. |
| Name | Message text | The record name opens the alert, because the channel needs to know which row before it knows anything else. |
| Record ID | Attachment URL | The record ID becomes a direct link to the row, attached so one click opens exactly the right place. |
| Status | Channel | Rows in different states route to different channels, which keeps a budget alert away from a delivery channel. |
Why teams run it
- Overspend is caught the day it happens, not at month end
- The alert names the row, so nobody hunts for it
- The limit lives on the flow and takes a second to change
Who uses it
An agency producer tracking project budgets who needs to know before a job goes over.
About the two apps
Airtable
Airtable is where teams build the tracker no off-the-shelf tool provides. Syncline keeps that base fed from your other apps and sends its rows onward when something changes.
Slack
Slack is where a team notices things, which makes it the best place to put an alert and the worst place to store one. Syncline sends messages into channels when something happens elsewhere, and turns the replies worth keeping into records.
Questions
Does it alert again every time the row is edited?
Can I set a limit per row instead of one for all?
